About Mürren

Murren is a cosy mountain village situated at 1650m at the foot of the ski mountain Schilthorn 2970m on a ridge of a 800m cliff drop above the Lauterbrunnen valley right across from the impressive Jungfrau massive. Murren is by many referred to as the most beautiful ski resort in the world. The village is car free and only reached by cable car/train. The cable car that leaves from Lauterbrunnen is reached by car from International airports in Zurich, Basel and Geneva in approximately 2 hours or by train in just over 3 hours.

In Winter

The Mürren ski area connects to Wengen and Grindelwald, forming the Jungfrau region with 44 lifts, 213 km of pistes, and 98 trails — including the legendary Lauberhorn downhill race in Wengen.

As the birthplace of alpine skiing, Mürren hosted the first slalom competition in 1922 and the inaugural Alpine World Championship in 1931. Its legacy lives on as one of the most authentic ski destinations in the Alps.

With fewer hotels and tourists compared to the lift system’s size, Mürren offers a rare, tranquil ski experience with no queues, plenty of space, and untouched powder. Here, skiing feels like a return to simpler times — a holiday focused on nature, serenity, and the luxury of slowing down.

In Summer

During summer, Mürren offers a peaceful retreat, with a stay at Chalet Sofia making it truly unforgettable. The Chalet's charming outdoor spaces invite you to relax in the sun or soak in the jacuzzi while taking in breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks.

The village is a perfect base for endless summer adventures — from scenic hikes and mountain bike trails to the thrilling Via Ferrata. For the adventurous, tandem paragliding into the stunning Lauterbrunnen Valley is a must. Many of Mürren’s renowned mountain restaurants remain open, while the village sports center offers year-round facilities, including a pool, gym and spa.

The dramatic Lauterbrunnen Valley, with its 72 waterfalls, inspired J.R.R. Tolkien’s vision of Rivendell in The Hobbit. As Tolkien himself wrote: “I left the view of the Jungfrau with deep regret: eternal snow, etched as it seems against eternal sunshine... the Silvertine of my dreams.”
